Publication ethics

The Editorial Board of the scientific journal ‘Grain Crops’ adheres to the principles of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers, developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as well as the principles of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), which are recognised by the international community, and the recommendations for editors of the special resource on publication ethics, the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK). The Editorial Board is also guided by the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for professional scientific publications of category B, the provisions of the laws of Ukraine ‘On Education’, ‘On Academic Integrity’ and ‘On Publishing’, and considers that ethical aspects of publication are an important part of editorial and review processes.

The journal adheres to the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and supports a responsible approach to the evaluation of research results. The Editorial Board does not use the journal's impact factor or other journal metrics as an indicator of the quality of an individual article or the scientific contribution of an author.

Compliance with COPE, WAME, and DORA Principles and Recommendations

The journal adheres with current best practices in scholarly communication. The Editorial Board adheres to ethical standards and recommendations for publication ethics defined by the following international organisations and initiatives:

Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

  • Transparency in the submission, peer review and publication process.
  • Impartiality and independence of editors and reviewers.
  • Academic integrity.
  • Procedures for handling complaints and appeals regarding publication ethics, retraction of published articles, corrections and errata.

World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)

  • Editorial independence ensures that decisions to publish manuscripts are accepted solely on the basis of scientific quality, regardless of any commercial or political influence.
  • In the event of a conflict of interest, authors, reviewers and editors are required to declare this fact.
  • Peer review should be based on objective, unbiased and timely expert assessment.
  • Transparency of funding – disclosure of information about grants, sponsors and sources of research funding.
  • Promotion of the dissemination of articles by young scientists in order to support them.

San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)

Decisions on the acceptance of manuscripts are based solely on scientific novelty, methodological correctness, theoretical and/or practical significance of the research, as well as on the quality of presentation of the material and justification of conclusions. The journal encourages the evaluation of research based on its content and contribution to the development of the relevant field of knowledge, regardless of the place of publication of the authors' previous works or their scientometric indicators. The journal does not limit itself to bibliometric indicators (impact factor, h-index), but evaluates research based on its quality, novelty, and contribution to science. For accurate citation, extended metadata and identifiers (ORCID, DOI) are used.

FAIR Data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) are internationally recognized guidelines that help ensure digital research data and other scholarly outputs are easy to find, access, integrate, and reuse. These principles apply to all stages of data processing, from the planning stage to data archiving. The journal encourages authors to deposit their research data in open repositories and to include the DOI in their articles.
